New plants for 2008

Jean Stowe selects some of the latest new plants for summer colour and variety

Frost is unlikely to be a problem after the third week in May, so around this time is ideal for planting half-hardy bedding plants in containers, hanging baskets and to fill spaces in your borders.

Whether you opt for bright colours, subtle unusual shades or innovative flowers like those of Fuchsia 'Satellite' (below), the shelves of garden centres and DIY stores will be full to bursting with plants. Those listed here are new for 2008. Expect to pay about £1.99 for 8-9cm (3-4in) pots, or see the links below for online sales.
