Traditional tools from Joseph Bentley

Well done to Phil Blaney who wins the tools for joining the site in December 2007

Border spade and fork
Congratulations to Phil Blaney from Blackburn who became a new member of the site in December 2007 and wins the Joseph Bentley border spade and fork set.

Sheffield-based company Joseph Bentley has been in business since 1895 selling quality tools to the public that have their roots in agriculture.

Included in today's products is a Traditional Range of tools inspired by the look, feel and quality of items offered by the company in the 1930s. The border fork and spade we're offering as a prize belongs to this range and features sold ash wooden handles (stained to an antique patina) and stainless-steel tool heads. The tools have been designed to be light, although there are carbon-steel equivalents for those gardeners who prefer heavier items.

Made of steel
Tools in the Traditional Range feature rebated handles, to prevent the handle from twisting, and the rivet that keeps the handle fixed in place is 'polished so smooth as to be virtually invisible', says Joseph Bentley. The company adds they are significantly longer than most other brands, which helps with digging and lifting, while the gauge of the stainless steel is thicker, increasing the strength.

The Joseph Bentley range includes hand, speciality, cutting and Groundmaster tools; children's and ladies' tools; and gift sets. To find out more about the company, view its new tool ranges and find stockists, visit the Joseph Bentley website.
