What is the best way to store potatoes over the winter? Also, this is the first time I have grown them and I understand I should not grow in the same place next year. When can I grow potatoes there again? I have a very small garden.

Mary: First make sure that the potatoes you wish to store are perfect, without slug holes etc. Do not wash the potatoes, but leave the earth on them. Then you can keep them in a cool, dark place in, preferably, a paper or hessian sack for about two months. If you have to use a plastic sack, make plenty of holes in it. The temperature should be about 9-10 degrees C. The ideal place is a cool dark cellar.
Try to rotate all your vegetable crops to a new piece of ground each year, although I know this is difficult in a small garden. If you can use a three-year rotation, the spuds will not grow in that spot for another two years. You could always try growing some in pots
or plastic sacks. It works really well.
