This autumn, I wish to give my lawn a good going over, by scarifying, aerating, topdressing, feeding and overseeding. My question is, can I use autumn lawn feed AND overseed it, or will the feed harm the new grass that emerges? Also, what order is it best to do this in?

Mary: I would leave out the autumn feed as the top-dressing will give it a boost. The sequence I would opt for would be to scarify, then aerate with a hollow tine aerator and then top-dress. Once you have done this, then overseed as necessary.
For future reference, I recommend Scotts Lawnbuilder autumn feed. Any of the main brands, however, are fine – but make sure you spread them very evenly.
