Q&A Veg: Blighted site

We've had potato blight on our outside plot this year. I know we shouldn't grow spuds there again unless we're 100% certain all tubers have been taken out, but, is it safe to grow another crop on the same site, like broccoli or cauliflowers – or should we leave the site fallow for a year?
Cath Holmes (31.08.07)

Elisabeth: Potato blight also affects tomatoes, but will not affect unrelated crops and so you will be safe growing any members of the cabbage family. Obviously you don't want to leave any potatoes in the ground, but I don't think there is any evidence that they could lead to blight in following seasons.
