'All products have been selected on the basis of their low impact on the environment and their stylish, practical nature.'

Hen and Hammock is an online store selling a broad range of garden products that not only benefit the environment, but the people who make them – for instance, the Brazilian fair-trade hammocks made by Amazonas in the Ceara region of Brazil. Here, thanks to rapid growth of the business and a state-of-the-art production hall, the workers benefit from dust-free working conditions, far higher pay than the legal minimum wage and Western-style benefits such as social security, health insurance and paid holidays.

Products are sourced from a number of global suppliers and items in the Hen and Hammock range have been selected on the basis of their low impact on the environment and their stylish, practical nature.

Recycled tyre trug
This trug is tough, malleable and surprisingly light, modelled on early reed tubs used by archaeologists. It has been cut and hand-sewn from a used tyre and measures 30cm (12in) high and 40cm (16in) wide. Use it for transporting weeds, potatoes – even small children!

Look out for the latest products from Hen and Hammock designed for the Christmas gift market and available from October. These include a recycled glass cloche, bird hamper, potting shed gift set, hedgehog house and rhubarb forcer.

Congratulations Andy!
