The name of the rose

Scented shrub rose wins Rose of the Year 2008 – on display at the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show

Sweet Haze
Rose of the Year 'Sweet Haze' with lavender

'Rose 'Sweet Haze' shows how people's tastes have changed from stiffer, full hybrid teas
to more natural, wilder-looking roses.'

Sweet Haze is Rose of the Year 2008
'Sweet Haze' has won the accolade Rose of the Year 2008. Winner of several international awards, this compact shrub rose features clusters of single, lilac-pink flowers each studded with a boss of dark-yellow anthers to please the wildlife. Gardening author Val Bourne comments: 'It shows how people's tastes have changed from stiffer, full hybrid teas to more natural, wilder looking roses.' 'Sweet Haze' is sweetly fragrant and extremely healthy with repeat flowers all summer long.

• Height 70cm (2-3ft)
• Bred by Rosen Tantau of Germany (Tan97274)
• Widely available

Rose of the Year 2007
Tickled Pink
Floribunda 'Tickled Pink'
'Sweet Haze' becomes the 26th Rose of the Year, following on from 'Tickled Pink' – Rose of the Year for 2007.

'Tickled Pink' is described as 'a really special floribunda with rather sultry, warm-pink, fragrant flowers set against olive-green foliage'. This highly popular rose has been a sell-out.

• Height 90cm (3ft)
• Bred by Gareth Fryer (Fryhunky)
• Difficult to find because it's sold so well, but should be widely available next year.
