2007: New potato planter launches

Tight on space? Grow tatties in ready-made planting bags with growing instructions

Haxnicks
Grow potatoes on the patio
People associate growing potatoes with owning (or having access to) a fair-sized stretch of earth. For those who are short on space, however, but still like the idea of growing potatoes, there is a new product you can try – the Haxnicks Potato Patio Planter.

Basically, this is a planting bag made from tough, green woven polyethelene, with drainage holes and handles on each side. At just 45cm (1½ft) high and 35cm (14in) deep, the planters are designed for patios, balconies and small gardens.

You supply the 40 litres of compost needed to fill the bag and the seed potatoes to plant in it. Many of you might be thinking you could simply make your own bag and it would do the job just as well. Or, how about using it for something else other than potatoes?

But, if you're short of time and effort and like the idea of growing potatoes with minimum fuss, a pack of three re-usable planters costs £14.99 from good garden centres. Additionally, there are detailed instructions on growing and harvesting potatoes on the reverse of the pack.
