Q&A Plants: Roses

Can you recommend an easy rose to grow in a herb garden?

Liz Dobbs: The apothecary's rose (Rosa gallica var. officinalis) or its sport R. mundi (R. gallica 'Versicolor') would be an appropriate choice.

It's a compact species that has been recorded growing here since the early 17th century and has scented, semi-double, pink flowers with red stripes. It is easy to grow and has very few prickles, which is useful when you are harvesting nearby herbs.
