The Brogdale Horticultural Trust will identify apples for a fee, but it does involve sending three of the same cultivar, plus sample shoots and leaves, in the post, with as much detail you can provide about the apple in question.

October's the month for visiting the various apple days across the country and if you take a sample along to one local to you, you may be able to get identification there and then. See the link above for details of events. Good luck!
