Would love to know what the flower is called Mike. If it is Emily Mkenzie what is its Latin name and what soil does it like please? Seen it much recently- very pretty!! warm wishes, Clarita

Hi I think the flower is called Crocosmia Montbretia, it comes in either orange or red, as we have some in our garden very similar. Ours is just grown in ordinary soil. Helen

Sorry should have put in the latin name- Crocosmia x Emily Mckenzie The common name as mentioned above by Helen is Montbretia. sometimes its hard to tell exactly what variety they are, on first looking i would say Emily Mckenzie then it could also be- Babylon or Emberglow Mike Easom

Might also be called Crocosmia Lucifer Helen
Crocosmia `Lucifer` is vibrant red and grows around 4-5ft mike

Crocosmia can also be yellow or lemon. Crocosmia Solfatare or George Davison.

Hi I guess you are right Mike Lucifer is red and the orange one is Emily McKenzie, well I have both kinds in the garden, so now I know the name of them both. Thanks Helen
Helen, not all the orange ones are Emily McKenzie... there are a number of different crocosmias. Emily McKenzie has an interesting eye (middle). Quite distinctive. If you google Emily McKenzie and hit images, you will see what she is like. Pamela

Hi Pam, Thanks very much I will check it out, as we had taken photo's at Wallington before and these plants were there. We had then taken photos from the board showing the plants there and this one stated Crocosmia Lucifer which was the orange one. Then I have looked in my garden books and a couple of them state that the lucifer is red, and others say it is an orange-red, so thanks for the photo I will get back to you. Helen

Hi Clarity, The Crocosmia you are talking about, that is in my garden, is Orange Devil. I bought it from Bridgemere five years ago. Maureen

Hi Maureen Thanks for letting us know, it seems that there are all different types of varities for the orange and the red one. Best wishes Helen
