How do I rid myself of a large amount of clover in a large lawn?  I hav eheard of something odd  - 2 4-D herbicide, but dont know what that is in terms of asking for it at  a garden centre. Any names would be helpful please! Also hints on how to apply it to a large lawn. thanks

Hi Carol,

There are lots of weedkillers which will tackle clover for you if you really want to get rid of it. Just ask for a 'Weed & Feed'  product at the garden centre but it would be better to apply this in the spring as it's a bit too late in the year now. Here's a link to info. on one product.

Weed & Feed

You can apply it with a watering can but if your lawn is very large you might want to invest in some kind of spray which they'll help you with at a garden centre.

If your lawn was only small I'd say just try & dig it out & re-seed the area as I don't like using weedkillers & clover attracts bees etc. which are in short supply these days but that's probably not practical for you.

Hi

Some amount of clover in a lawn is a good thing as it fixes nitrogen. However if you are intent on removing it Verdone is a very good weed killer, it will also see off all broad leaf weeds such as dandelion. It can be applied with a sprinkle bar or a fine rose.

If you are are going to apply weed and feed at this time of the year make sure it is an autumn  one.

Hi

All weed killers are best used when active growth is taking place. It depends on the weather conditions in your area. If the grass is showing signs of active growth now then it may work. If not do it as the grass starts growing in spring.

for some years now i've used a lawn treatment company. I found that when i treated the lawn myself it wasn't cheap and it didnt work very well so really was a waste of money. i then used local lawn company and within short while the clover and moss disappeared plus i had the best lawn in the close where we lived at the time. I've since moved and am using Green Thumb, a franchise, and so far so good.
