I have been looking through my pictures and posted some of Tatton Park vegie display, which brought me to thinking again of what type of carrot I can grow.

I would like to grow one which tastes of carrot, we seem to have bred the taste out of carrots - anyone out there who knows of a tastey carrot, please let me know.

I am not concerned about the size but think colour should be orange not too keen on looking at the paler varieties, don't seem to be right to me eating pale carrots.

Any advice please!

Hi

Three good ones for you.

Short rooted, Early Nantes, Amsterdam Forcing. These are the first to be sown and mature quickly.

Medium rooted, Chantenay Red Core very tasty when cooked or eaten raw. You pays your money and you takes your choice!!

Btw like your pics lol.

Hi Barbara,

Last year I bought a pack of seeds from Wilko, they were Amsterdam Forcing 3 and they were so sweet they reminded us of what carrots used to taste like.  I saved the packet to get some next year as the memory is not as good as it was!

Thank you for that, it is really strange, because I went out yesterday and bought a packet of what Bazza said to get and saw Amsterdam Forcing 3 and bought a packet of that also, so will have a go at both of them this spring and see which I like the best thanks again for your help

Best wishes Barbara W
