Two years ago I planted a Plum tree which gave a lot of fruit after the first year but this year there is no fruit ata ll.  Would this be because of early frost?

Mine are the same as yours Yvonne, also my pears. it was very frosty up here till quite late in the spring so i'm blaming that.

I have a Victoria Plum tree.

I planted it in 2006, and all it did for the first year was flower.

This year, the tree was an absolute mass of flowers more so then usual, then it produced its first ever crop of plums!!

The plums were just gorgeous!!

I think with most fruit trees, they produce fruit every other year.

I think you will find that next year your tree will be covered with plums like mine was!!

One good thing though; do spray your plum tree leaves with a bug spray as I get dreadful greenfly on mine!!

hi,

depends on whether you puned off the fruiting branches.

think they flower /fruit on last years wood(branches that grew last year) so if you pruned these off then bingo, no fruit.

i'm no expert but that could be one reason. i didn't get good crop this year but last year was fantastic. maybe just the wierd weather were having!!!!!

Hi all, Clair, your prob. right a good season with lots of fruit must take a lot out of the tree and it needs a season of rest??? however,I thik you need to not only spray for g/fly but put a grease band around the trunk at this time... codling?? moth not sure but they climb up the trunk and lay their eggs on leaves ,,Maybe a good idea to do so now.? Weather has a lot to do with it. must admit ,victoria plums are one of the fruits to die for!!!!!

I'm looking to include a victoria plum in our planting this autumn. Is it best to find a specialised tree grower of just the local nursery?
