29 – 30 January 2011N/ARSPB – The Big Garden Birdwatch
 NationwideBig Garden Birdwatch is fun, free and easy. It only takes an hour and is your chance to do something that counts for the birds you love. All you need is a pen, some paper (or a printout of the RSPB handy bird ID sheet - see website), and an hour to spend watching the birds in your garden on either Saturday 29 or Sunday 30 January 2011. Then simply record the highest number of each bird species seen in your garden, or local park (not flying over) at any one time, and submit your results online.  This all-weekend course is led by botanist and ecologist, Ros Bennett, and will help you discover how to use the basic features of cones and foliage to distinguish between Spruces and Firs, Redwoods and Hemlocks, Larches and Cedars, before learning how to identify individual species. February 2011City of LondonChelsea Physic Garden – Winter Openings
 Visit Chelsea Physic Garden on their winter opening dates: 5th and 6th February (10am-4pm), 12th and 13th February (10am-4pm). Breakfast, brunch, warming stew and mulled wine will be served in the café. Free guided tours will highlight winter-flowering shrubs and the shop will be selling unusual plants and snowdrops. Visitors can also view a special collection of spring-flowering bulbs. Snowdrops have always provided one of the delights of these openings. The garden boasts a collection of over 75 species, largely grouped together as a tribute to some of the most famous snowdrop breeders of the 19th and 20th centuries. 12 – 20 February 2011LincolnshireEaston Walled Garden – Snowdrops 2011
 Easton Walled Gardens, Easton, Grantham, Lincolnshire, NG33 5AP Easton Walled Gardens are open for snowdrops from 12th - 20th February 2011, 11.00 -4.00 daily. This is their busiest week of the year. Naturalised snowdrops run along the river banks and plants indoors produce a welcome blast of scent. Admission £5.50. The whole trail is over half a mile.  Holker Estate, Cark-in-Cartmel, Nr Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria LA11 7PL.An exclusive opportunity to visit the Hall & Gardens before Holker opens for the 2011 season on Mothering Sunday. For the first time during spring half term, Holker Hall & Gardens will be offering visitors a sneak peek of what the spring season has on offer. Opening from Sunday 20th until Friday 25th February Holker Hall is the perfect location to get out in the fresh air and shake off the winter cobwebs with family and friends. A fun packed week of activities will include spring nature hunts, guided walks around the gardens and parklands and spring inspired craft activities. The hall will be open from 11.00-4.00pm and the gardens from 10.30am-5.30pm. Entrance to the Hall & Gardens is £11.50 for adults, £10.00 for concessions and £6.00 for children (6-15.)
